DLP Reflection Week 6: A Lesson in Flexibility!

So......, just when I thought things were getting back to normal, WHAM! Nope, nope, not a normal week!

We had our first round of Scantron Performance Series testing this week. Which means, everybody's schedule is out of wack! On top of that, the internet wasn't working for the first day (the entire test is online)! Teachers and students are exactly the same when their schedules are disrupted. They just seem to get a little nutty.

We reconfigured our testing plan and Tuesday and Wednesday went just fine. We tried to do make-ups today and.....the students laptops would not connect to the internet!!! On top of the fact that today was a half day for students.

I said all that to say, this week while meeting with teachers, I talked about the importance of being flexible and always having a back up to your back up. There have been times that I have come in to my classroom and the internet is out all over the building, or there's a "pop up"assembly, or I have to cover a class for part of my planning time. Don't let these little hiccups crush your lesson or your day. Always have a back up plan.

Another part of the conversation that I had with teachers this week centered around not being discouraged when all their plans don't go as planned. It's okay! Regroup, reorganize, start again during the next period or the next day. Don't dwell on it, learn from it!

In the words of my assistant principal Ms. Moore, "Teddy P. it, LET IT GO!"

  1. Love the Teddy P. reference or as my kids would call it the Elsa saying....LOL Some days you just have to "Let it Go"! It's great you were able to show your teachers that everyone is affected by sudden changes and you can only do what's in your power to do. The beauty of teaching is that with or without technology, learning CAN take place! :) . I hope your week goes a little smoother this week before the Fall break.
