DLP Refection Week 3: Managing It All!!!

So......my biggest challenge for this week has been managing my time (as evidenced by this extremely late post!). There are so many things that happen in a day that threaten to drain my time or kill my perfectly color coded schedule!

One of the suggestions I received from my mentor coach was to use the items from the weekly newsletter as my absolute must does for the week when creating my schedule with teachers. Making sure to build these pieces in my schedule each week and making them a priority. Really blocking off time for them each and every week.

Another suggestion that I thought about was to share my schedule with more than just the teachers that I am working with this cycle. This way, they can see that I, like them, am pretty busy too! Maybe seeing where or what I am supposed to me moving on to next on my schedule will help them be more conscience of my time. I have a few who will also "check me" if I'm not where I am supposed to be!

Some times I have teachers who may not be a part of this cycle, but who need some assistance. I created a google forms survey (http://bit.ly/MTNFWeekly) to help me find out who may need what. I think this goes toward building relationships with teachers prior to working with them in a cycle. When they know that I will do what I can to help them with the little things, they will be more apt to allow me to help them with their own problems of practice when the time comes.

  1. April - I love that you have teachers that will "check you"! We all need accountability partners. I'm glad you found the suggestions for scheduling beneficial. Once you get in a routine, this will all be second nature. Take the time now to figure out what method works best for you. Time can get away very easily if we are not conscious of it - maybe set timeframes & reminders in your Google Calendar or even in Google Keep just to keep you aware of what's to come or what's due. The Google Form idea is great! You are absolutely right, it will allow you to build relationships with the teachers who are not currently in the cycle and it also let's them know you are there for them and to support them too. I can't leave this blog without saying "who gon' check me boo!" I can't wait to hear about the person/ people that will rise to the occasion and keep you on schedule...lol :)
